Deborah moved from the Washington, DC area to New Jersey in late 2020 to be near family. She had had a long career in family advocacy in health care and had worked for 10 years at the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering relationships among patients, families, and health care professionals. As she looked for opportunities to volunteer in her new home in the Garden State, Deborah learned about WAMMC and its work. It seemed a good fit for her background and experience! Additionally, her granddaughter had been hospitalized at MMC as an infant and had received excellent care there. So, in the spring of 2023, Deborah became a member of the WAMMC Scholarship Committee under Jennifer Thackery’s leadership.
