SOMERSET HILLS TWIG OF THE WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION FOR MORRISTOWN MEDICAL CENTER RAISES FUNDS TO BENEFIT GORYEB CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

November 29, 2017

The Somerset Hills Twig, a local branch of the Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center (WAMMC), hosted its second annual fundraiser in support of Morristown Medical Center, raising over $9,000. Proceeds will benefit the Healing Arts Drum Program at Goryeb Children’s Hospital.

More than 100 guests attended an evening of “Bourbon and Burgers in the Barn” at The Champions Club at Tranquillity Farm in Chester, New Jersey on Saturday, November 18, 2017.  The event featured gourmet sliders, a unique bourbon tasting, a 50/50 raffle and a “Wine Grab.”

Tracy Redling, Somerset Hills Twig Co-President with Elaine Edge, thanked all the guests for coming out in support of this worthwhile cause, and applauded all of the volunteers who helped make this event a success.

Guest speaker, Megan Calabro, Music Therapist at Goryeb’s Childen’s Hospital, shared the many benefits of the music program for the children and performed a fun and interactive demonstration for all the attendees. The Healing Arts Drum Program gives children and their families an opportunity to interact with each other in the hospital in a non-sick way. Music not only reduces blood pressure and stress, but also facilitates communication. Research has proved that music has direct impact on immunological functioning, suggesting it can influence the healing process.

“This second-annual event hosted by the Somerset Hills Twig was, once again, a great success. We are grateful for their ongoing dedication and commitment to WAMMC’s fundraising efforts in support of Morristown Medical Center,” said Mary Courtemanche, President, Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center.

The Somerset Hills Twig, which was formed in 2015, is one of the seven branches that supports WAMMC’s mission to promote quality healthcare within the community through service projects and fundraising for Morristown Medical Center.
